PE comity is the process of applying for a professional engineer license in another state based on an existing PE license. It is often called comity, endorsement, or licensure by comity, but it is not an automatic license transfer. Each state board still decides whether the applicant meets its education, exam, experience, reference, background check, and document rules.
How does PE license transfer by comity work?
An NCEES Record can reduce duplicate paperwork, but it does not transfer a license or guarantee approval. The target board still makes the licensing decision and may require a state application, fee, fingerprints, law review, or branch-specific examinations.
