PE comity guide

What is PE comity?

PE comity is the process of applying for a professional engineer license in another state based on an existing PE license. It is often called comity, endorsement, or licensure by comity, but it is not an automatic license transfer. Each state board still decides whether the applicant meets its education, exam, experience, reference, background check, and document rules.

How does PE license transfer by comity work?

An NCEES Record can reduce duplicate paperwork, but it does not guarantee approval. AppsVerified checks your current license, target state, discipline, FE and PE exam status, degree type, experience, references, NCEES Record status, timing, and board source notes before suggesting the likely route and first blockers.

Supported target states

Office guidance for the report

City or ZIP is enough. The full roadmap includes the target board office/contact point and what, if anything, is worth doing in person.

Most filing is handled through BPELSG Connect or board instructions. Fingerprinting and California civil exams may involve separate locations.
