What the NCEES Record does
The NCEES Record is a centralized file for education, exam, experience, reference, and license information. For multi-state PE licensure, it can save time because the applicant does not have to rebuild the same packet for every board.
The important limit is simple: the Record supports the application, but it does not replace the state board. Each board still decides whether the applicant meets that state's rules.
Where it matters most
Nevada and Georgia are the strictest supported paths because their comity routes rely on an NCEES Record. New York, Washington, North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, California, Florida, and Colorado can also use or accept the Record in different ways.
If a target state requires the Record, start there before filling out the board application. If the state only accepts or recommends it, compare the Record path against separate transcripts, references, and license verification work.
What to check before transmission
Confirm that the Record shows the correct current PE license, FE and PE exam status, education, experience dates, references, and discipline. A missing or stale item can create the same delay as a missing state application attachment.
Also check timing. Some boards want the Record transmitted after the state application is opened. Others let you start with the NCEES process and then complete a short state form.
